We are campaigning for the rights of the young transgender community, particularly regarding schools and potential guidance from the education department that would require parental permission to be called by gender affirming names and pronouns.
Trans rights are human rights.
What We Have Achieved
Created The Rainbow Criteria - a Lewisham wide quality mark for organisations that are showing a commitment to creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ young people. Young people participated in a design workshop with a focus on historical LGBTQ+ iconography to create the emblem, as well as detailing what local organisations would need to commit to to create a safe space for LGBTQIA+ young people. If you would like to know more about how to be awarded the Rainbow Criteria, or if you would like to nominate a space to receive the award, please email [email protected]
Participated in trans rights workshops hosted by TransActual as part of METRO’s Youth Pride Event. TransActual UK was founded by a group of British trans people in 2017 as a response to increasing press hostility, transphobia and misinformation. We are run by the trans community, with the trans community, for the trans community.
METRO hosted a Masterclass for their young people to create posters and banner for Pride celebrations, using techniques such as lino printing taught in a masterclass.
At the My London Act Youth Summit, METRO focused on allyship and prompted their peers to think about how they could best support a trans peer at school and what they think schools should do to protect trans youth.
